HOW TO INSTALL PROCREATE BRUSH LIBRARIES
Procreate 5.4 is here, and we've updated a selection of our brushes to take advantage of the new brush libraries feature,
This update is a huge leap forward for brush organization in Procreate. It also means there's a new Procreate brush file format (.brushlibrary) and a slightly different installation process than you might be used to.
Watch the video above to learn how to install your updated brushes, plus a couple of workarounds if your iPad isn't automatically recognizing the new file type.
Got questions? We've put together a detailed FAQ below to fill in the blanks on our brush library-formatted Procreate brushes.
Q. Do I need to update Procreate before installing my new brush libraries?
A. Yes. .brushlibrary formatted brushes will only work with Procreate 5.4 or higher. It is essential that you update Procreate before attempting to install any Brush Library formatted brush set.
Q. How do I update Procreate?
- Open the App Store and tap on your profile picture in the top right to access your Account menu. You’ll see a list of every app you've ever purchased. Scroll down until you find Procreate.
- Tap the Update button next to Procreate to update the app.
- If you're unsure whether your app is up to date, open your copy of Procreate and, in the Gallery, tap the Procreate logo in the top left corner to view your app’s version number.
Q. Which True Grit Brushes have been updated to the new Brush Library Format
- Beat Tones
- KraftTone
- RizzCraft
- Stipple Studio
- The Rusty Nib
Q. Will there be any other True Grit brushes updated to brush libraries
A. Not at this stage. We've chosen to update brush packs that contain multiple sets that benefit significantly from being contained in a separate library. We do have new sets releasing soon that will also be organized as brush libraries.
Q. Why doesn't the .brushlibrary file have a Procreate icon?
A. Because this is a new file format, iPadOS will take a while (and maybe a few installations) until it starts to recognize which app is associated with the file type. Rest assured, this does not mean the file is broken, damaged, or incompatible with Procreate 5.4.
Q. What does it mean if I can't install the new .brushlibrary files?
A. You either need to update to Procreate 5.4, or your iPad may not be compatible with the latest version of Procreate. In this case, you can simply continue to use your existing brushes.
Q. My Procreate is definitely up-to-date with version 5.4 installed and the brushes still won't work. What should I do?
A. Restart your iPad and your modem then download the brushes again. Watch the video above and try installing again following the two workarounds detailed from 0:43secs.
Q. I didn't get any update emails. How can I re-download my brushes?
A. Visit account.truegrittexturesupply.com and login or register with the same email you made your purchases with. If you've made purchases with multiple emails, you will need to login separately or get in touch and we can merge your accounts manually.
Q. Have the brushes themselves been changed in any way?
A. No, only the brush organization has been updated, making it easier to find the right brush quickly.
Q. What if I want to use the old .brushset format?
A. Keep your current brushes installed and continue to use them as usual. We recommend saving a backup copy of them following these instructions.
Q. Can I organize my own brushes into brush libraries?
A. You bet. Here's Procreates guidance on getting the most out of the new brush engine and brush management features.
